C-sections, appendectomies and other abdominal surgeries can be the cause of chronic pain

By John V Murphy, PT

Do you have a chronic pain that has seemingly come out of nowhere? It could be neck pain, hip pain, shoulder pain, knee pain, or just about any pain. It may have started slowly and consistently gotten worse over the years. Perhaps you have been to therapy where they told you that you had spasms or knots and needed to stretch out whatever is hurting you. You are using a roller or a theragun everyday, and the next day you just need to do it again.

Abdominal and pelvic adhesions occur after 95% of abdominal/pelvic surgeries. These adhesions lead to protective reactions and change the overall mechanical balance of the body in a permanent way. They might pull your neck forward or make your hips stiff. They can cause curves in your spine. Depending on the location and severity of the adhesions, the symptoms will vary. Treating the spine, the neck, the shoulder, the feet or wherever the pain shows up won’t ever truly fix the problem, and you will be stuck with the label of chronic pain.

At Core, we know that chronic pain means that you have a pain that hasn’t been fixed properly yet. Often, if your history includes a life saving surgery like a C-section, appendectomy, hysterectomy, etc, the adhesions that resulted from the surgery need to be addressed so that the body can return to its previous health. Your chronic pain will disappear when the problem is fixed. Luckily, fixing an adhesion is easy.

When the proper techniques are applied, these adhesions can be drastically reduced, and the body can regain its health. In the past month alone, correcting adhesions, has provided symptomatic relief for patients that have come to me for irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), abdominal migraines, hip pain, back pain, shoulder pain, and neck pain. All of them have suffered for years, and adhesions were never considered as a cause for their pain.

For our experienced therapists, it is easy to determine if adhesions are the cause of your chronic pain. If you have difficult-to-fix chronic pain and have a history of abdominal or pelvic surgery, come visit us at Core PT. We can determine if adhesions are the cause of your pain.
